The ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board) Vice Chair role is essential to oversee the development and implementation of global sustainability disclosure standards. While  specific standards may vary,  the requirements and responsibilities of this role typically include: 

ISSB Vice Chair Criteria:

 1. Experience and Expertise:

Work Experience:

 Extensive experience in sustainability reporting, financial accounting, or related fields. Experience with standards or regulatory bodies will be highly valued. 

Leadership Skills: 

Proven track record in  leadership roles with experience leading teams and/or driving strategic initiatives.  

Industry Knowledge:

 Deep understanding of sustainability issues, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors. 

2. Education:

Relevant Degree:

 An advanced degree in finance, accounting, sustainability, or related field is often required.  

Professional Certifications:

 Relevant certifications such as CPA, CFA, or similar may be helpful. 

3. Global Perspective:

International Experience:

 Experience working in or with multiple countries or international organizations to understand different sustainability practices and regulatory environments. 

Cultural Sensitivity:

 Ability to manage and respect cultural differences in the development of global standards.

 4. Technical Skills:

Standards Development:

 Experience in developing, implementing, or interpreting international standards or frameworks. 

Analytical Skills:

Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex sustainability issues and their financial impacts. 

5. Communication Skills: 

Stakeholder Engagement:

 Ability to communicate effectively  with a  range of stakeholders including investors, regulators and companies.  

Public Speaking:

Ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively. 

6. Ethical Standards:

Integrity:

High ethical standards and a commitment to transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting.  

Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight:

Support the ISSB Chair on strategic direction and overall board leadership. 

Standards Development:

 Contribute to the creation and refinement of global sustainability disclosure standards.

Stakeholder Dialogue:

 Work with stakeholders to gather input, address concerns, and reach consensus on sustainability standards.

Global Representation:

 Represent  ISSB in international forums and discussions on sustainability standards. The ISSB Vice Chair role is critical to advancing global sustainability reporting practice and ensuring that  standards developed meet the needs of a wide range of stakeholders.
