The criteria for becoming an officer in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) includes various educational, physical and psychological requirements. A general outline is as follows:
1. School Qualifications:
General Duty Pilot (GDP):
Intermediate degree (Pre-Diploma in Engineering/Pre-Diploma in Medicine/Computer Science) with at least 60% of F.Sc. or equivalent. A-level candidates must have obtained at least C grade in three subjects and have passed Physics and Mathematics.
Engineering:
Bachelor's/Bachelor's Degree (Engineering) in Aerospace, Avionics or related field with at least 62.5%.
Air Defense, Administration, Logistics:
Bachelor's degree (at least two departments) from a recognized university.
2. Age Requirement:
General Duty Pilot:
16-22 years.
Engineering Branch:
18-30 years.
Other Branches (Air Defense, Administration, Logistics):
18-30 years.
3. Physical Requirements:
Size:
Minimum height for men is 162.5 cm (5 feet 4 inches), for women is 147 cm (4 feet 10 inches).
Vision:
Achieve 6/6 BIP perfect vision without glasses.
Weight:
According to Body Mass Index (BMI).
4. Selection Process:
Intelligence Test:
Basic IQ test for verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
Academic Test:
Subject specific tests depending on the field (e.g. Physics, Mathematics for BIP).
Physical Test:
Includes running, push ups, sit ups, pull ups etc.
Initial Medical Examination:
Conducted to ensure candidates meet the medical criteria.
Interview:
Group interview to assess communication skills, personality and motivation.
ISSB (Inter-Service Selection Board):
4-day assessment including psychological test, group task and interview.
Final Medical Examination:
Comprehensive medical examination at PAF Hospital.
5. Training:
Selected candidates will undergo rigorous training at PAF Academy Risalpur or any other designated training institute. This criteria may vary slightly depending on the branch or role within PAF and may be updated over time.
